Encore!
Every year I'll have students ask to do some "show and tell" type things. It mostly consists of sharing a cool instrument they got on vacation, or maybe playing a recorder or piano solo for the class. I saw this idea on Pinterest over the summer and decided to create my own Encore! board. I used large sheets of red paper to make the curtains and found some glitter stars at the craft store. Each class has a roster and when a student completes their Encore performance we mark the date and what they did. So far this year students have performed dance solos, gymnastics routines (set to music of course!), unique instrument show and tells, shared favorite songs, shared books they've read about music, and shared instruments they have made. Some of the band and orchestra students have performed solos on their instruments and others have sang solos. It's been a really fun way for students to share their interests, and it doesn't take much time away from class. Usually we can squeeze one in right before we line up.

New Beginnings
Hi! So I'm new to this whole "blogging" experience. I teach elementary music K-5 and I'm in my 9th year. My how time flies! I started this blog to share some of my ideas with others, since I get a lot of new ideas from blogs and Pinterest! Enjoy!
